It’s mid-term season around these parts, so you know what that means: under eye circles. Late nights and early mornings can add up to under eye circles that are a force to be reckoned with. After working late until 2 am, I don’t always wear makeup. However, when there’s a presentation the next day at noon, I have to suck it up. Here is my simple routine for covering up under eye circles that mean business.
As always, your makeup starts before you pick up any bottle of foundation. It starts with your skincare routine. After a late night of working, I make sure to wash my face and moisturize so that my skin care recover overnight. I’m still using and loving the face wash I used in my last skincare routine post, but have since switched up nighttime moisturizers. After I get out of the shower, I moisturize my entire face with the Philosophy Clear Days Ahead gel moisturizer. After that, I still use the Philosophy Clear Days ahead spot treatment to target any blemishes. Finally, I apply some lip balm and hit the hay.
The next morning, I apply my trusty Origins GinZeng eye cream under both eyes. Lately, I have been using the Philosophy Hope in a Jar moisturizer. While the scent of this product took some getting used to, there is no denying how moisturizing it is. Next, I brush my teeth so (a) my teeth are clean and (b) both moisturizers have time to get absorb into my skin and work their magic on my under eye circles.
Now onto makeup – the covering up under eye circles part. I recently purchased a makeup sponge from Ulta and have really loved how it blends foundation. In the same trip to Ulta, I purchased the Maybelline Fit Me liquid foundation in shade 120 and I had truly forgotten how much I loved Maybelline foundations. Not only is their shade range incredible, but their products are incredibly easy to apply.
Okay, moving on. First, I run warm water and give the sponge a good couple of squeezes under the running water. Once it’s saturated, I turn the water off and give it one final squeeze to get out excess water. Then I use my fingers to dot foundation all over my face. I dot the makeup sponge over the foundation and then the rest of my face to spread it out in an even layer. I also spread foundation over my eyelids, under my eyes and in the cavities of my inner eyes by my nose.
Then, I apply my Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer under my eyes in a ray-like pattern beginning near the corners of my eyes. I use the makeup sponge to dab this as close to my lower lash line as possible. I have really found that the makeup sponge prevents my face makeup from looking cakey and does an even better job covering up under eye circles. Previously, I was using a traditional foundation brush, but I wasn’t happy with how it made my foundation look like it was sitting on top of my skin and was poorly blended.
Then, I lightly dust a setting powder all over my face; lately I’ve been using the Maybelline Better Skin powder that I received from Influenster back in August. And that’s it!
You can check out the rest of my foundation routine in my original post. I am about to run out of my Maybelline powder and have a different powder waiting to be used, but (as always) I would love to know what your favorite makeup product is at the moment.
