Hey everyone! Today, I will be featuring a post from Roxana, a Sydney-based writer. She’s filled with great ideas and tips that are useful for anyone with a busy schedule. Enjoy 🙂
Sometimes you feel like you are in a small room where the walls are closing in, and there is nothing you can do about it. All the obligations you have are giving you stress and squeezing out your “me time”. Between work, home life, friends and family it seems impossible to dedicate some time to yourself, but if you are neglecting your needs and health, you have got your priorities all wrong. There is only so much juggling a person can handle; here is how to right that wrong.
Believe You Deserve It
You must know that taking some “me time” does not mean you are being selfish. There is no need to feel guilty if you “unplug” from your daily chores, turn off your phone to think about your needs, instead of everyone others. You should realize that recharging will be beneficial for every aspect of your life: you will perform more efficiently in your job, you will communicate better with your friends and family, and you will be happier and more pleasant person to be around.
Find Something You Really Want to Do
Since you already have little time for your needs, you should find the best way how to spend it. Depending on your own preferences, you can use that time to work on your personal progress (enroll in a language course, for instance), join the gym, or simply, read a book, rest and relax. The important thing is that those activities should make you feel rested and happy.
Run, run for your life! No, not really. Every getaway, no matter how near or far, can benefit your physical and mental health. Clear your head by spending some time in a spiritual retreat away from everyday worries. A break from your fast-paced life will transform you and give you a better perspective on life.
Get Rid of Things that Are Wasting Your Time
Some things you are doing are plain time-wasters. So instead of always checking your email, spending hours on social media and going to the store three times a day, try to minimize the time you are spending on these tasks and you will end up with a few additional minutes or even hours to include in your special “me time”.
Reward Yourself Occasionally
Hard work, especially your own hard work, should be rewarded every now and then. Set a special date each month when you will reward yourself with a present. It can be a massage, a spa day, a nail polish, a lipstick, a new hairstyle, or anything else that crosses your mind that would be a treat.
Learn to Say “No”
You are not a bad person if you cannot find the time to help your friend with spring cleaning, babysit your nephews or have a coffee with your coworkers. Sometimes you simply have to say “no” and use that time for yourself and your obligations. Once you realize that that is not such a horrible thing to do, you will feel much better. That does not mean that you should not say yes, when you are actually available or willing.
Indulge Once a Week
Everyone should enjoy indulging from time to time. So take one day a week to binge watch your favorite TV show with a bowl of ice cream. Go to the movies all by yourself and watch the one movie no one wanted to watch with you. Draw a bubble bath, pour some essential oils into the water, play relaxing music and enjoy.
If you are not good to yourself, you will not be able to be good to others. So write your name high on your priority list and start appreciating yourself.
