I will be the first to admit that I get an intoxicating pleasure browsing the counters at Sephora and making a purchase. However, my budget doesn’t always allow me to try a new $30 powder. The brands found at the drugstore (think Target, Walmart, Walgreens and Ulta) have upped their game in the last two years or so. Many products under the $15 dollar mark can compete with if not exceed the quality and performance of many products that cost at least twice as much. Today, I’m sharing the drugstore makeup items I’m currently using and loving. In every product category, I will also be sharing other drugstore items that I have tried and loved to give you some options while you’re shopping. What is your current favorite makeup item?
I have extensive experience with Maybelline foundations. I am an all-around Maybelline fan, but particularly commend them on their face products. I am currently using the Maybelline Fit Me foundation in the shade 120 Classic Ivory. I have combination skin and lean more dry in the winter and more oily in the summer – logically so. I prefer to have control over how much coverage I get out of a foundation and look for medium coverage foundations that have buildable coverage.
I recently was near a MAC store and picked up a concealer while I was there. That being said, I do have experience with drugstore concealers. When shopping for concealers I look for shades that could do double duty as an under-the-eye and spot concealer.
I pretty much exclusively buy drugstore powders. I have had such good success with powders that are under $10 that I am hard pressed to venture out of this comfort zone for a more expensive alternative. I’ve been using this Rimmel powder for years and love it. It sets my foundation and adds a little touch of added coverage. The best part? It never looks cakey.
I have had the Covergirl palette above for far too long – something about trying to use up what I have before buying new things. Because of that philosophy, I’m still using my Smashbox Photo Finish Eyeshadow Primer, but did you know there’s a dupe at the drugstore by Milani that’s around $5. You could say I’m a little bitter about it. When it comes to eyeshadow looks, I like naturally defined looks. As you can see, I completely used up the gold eyeshadow in this palette – it was my go-to lid color. I use the white shade as a subtle highlight in my inner corner and under my eyebrow. Needless to say, I’m ready for something new.
These Rimmel kajal eyeliners rock. They come in a bazillion colors and don’t budge an inch once they’re applied. In addition to having great quality products, Rimmel is super affordable and widely available. I only wear eyeliner if I’m wearing eyeshadow typically, because it helps my lashes stand out more.
I freaking love the L’Oreal Lash Paradise. The tube pictured is a brand spankin’ new tube. When I first tried this one, I was shocked I liked it so much because my lashes typically don’t get on with L’Oreal mascaras. I’m a big advocate for pretty much any Maybelline or Rimmel mascara (can you tell these brands have got it goin’ on?) – every one I’ve tried has been a rockstar.
As you can see, I haven’t included any lip products in the photos above. Again in the name of using up what I have before I buy something new, I’m using my NARS lip pencil in Rikugien. Over the years, I have tried some pretty wonderful lip products from the drugstore (read as ‘from Maybelline.’).
Do you have any makeup favorites that are from the drugstore?
