For years, I manifested this aversion to green tea. I don’t know how I was able to do it, but I suppose if you think something enough, you believe it. It wasn’t until a few years ago when I had an iced green tea with lemon and, I swear, I heard a symphony begin to play and the skies opened up. This magical iced tea was refreshing, yummy and didn’t leave my mouth dry like many iced black teas do. One day earlier in the summer, I came up with this drink on a whim largely because I didn’t want to go to the store to buy mixer. Genius is born out of necessity, no?
If you’re a newcomer to this series, WELCOME! In this series, I share my favorite adult beverages that I make at home using only three ingredients. The only exceptions to this ‘three ingredients rule’ is the use of plain tap water and ice aka items that most people have readily accessible.

Like I mentioned earlier, this recipe was born out of necessity. I received these green tea bags from Pure Leaf from Influenster. They also sent the black tea and vanilla flavor which I went through SO fast. I highly recommend those. Anyway, I had these green tea with citrus tea bags hanging around and thought I’d use them – how bad could they be right?
I made one mug-full of this iced tea and mixed it with some lemonade and vodka. Voila! It’s good, y’all.
Shout out to my reflection in the tea pot.
Whether or not you use a pre-made iced tea or brew your own at home, you want something that has a strong green tea flavor. Depending on how many people you are making this for, I recommend using less water when brewing to really concentrate the green tea flavor. If you’re making these for a crowd of folks, I recommend using multiple tea bags in each mug of hot water. Something I found sort of strange is that the steep time for this particular tea is only two minutes – don’t do that. I recommend steeping your tea bag(s) for at least five to ten minutes.
When you make tea, the water is hot – duh. A trick for getting it to cool down is to pop it in the freezer for about ten minutes. It will cool it down enough where it won’t melt the ice in the shaker after five seconds. (P.S. if you’re looking for a drink shaker, we really love this one.)
Also, life is too short to not drink from fun mugs. Go get yourself a fun mug.
Also, if y’all have been paying attention around these parts, you know I am not vodka’s biggest fan. That being said, we have had this unopened bottle of vodka for two years. Needless to say, it was time to open it.
Now comes my favorite part: dumping everything into the shaker, pouring it into my glass and topping it off with some fancy San Pellegrino. If you’re feeling extra fancy, you could put your glasses in the freezer to chill so your drink stays extra cold. We love colorful straws mostly because they make us feel 5 years old again, but I have cold sensitive teeth, so they help with that too.

Here are a few notes about using San Pellegrino:
If you’re not a lemonade fan, they have a few other flavors you could try. My favorite is the blood orange flavor!
Regardless of the flavor you use, they are tart and make your lips pucker. If you do not want such a strong tart flavor, use more iced tea in your drink.
1 1/2 shots of vodka (or white rum)
4 – 6 oz strong iced green tea (quantity will vary depending on how tart you want your beverage)
1 can Limonata San Pellegrino
- Fill tea kettle with water and bring to a boil. If you don’t have a kettle, fill a mug with water and microwave on high for 45 seconds until water is hot.
- Once water has boiled, filled a mug with water and place 1-3 tea bags in the hot water. Allow the tea to steep for at least five minutes.
- Allow tea to completely cool. You may place the mug of tea in the freezer for 10 minutes to speed up the cooling process.
- Fill a drink shaker half full with ice. Pour in the vodka.
- Add 4 – 6 ounces of the iced tea. Shake well.
- Pour the drink into two glasses – distributing the drink evenly between them. Fill the rest of the glasses with Limonata San Pellegrino.
- Pop in a colorful straw and enjoy!
