Over at our house, we’re a whiskey family. One of both mine and Tuck’s favorite drinks? The Irish Mule. If you’re a fan of ginger ale and/or whiskey, the Irish mule is definitely the next drink you need to whip up for yourself. As per my other 3-ingredient drink recipes, at the end of this post I have listed out ways you can tweak this recipe to better suit your taste preferences. Enjoy!
Back in the fall, Tuck’s dad brought us this bottle of Rebel Yell ginger whiskey and I quickly assumed I wouldn’t like it. After having an Irish mule at one of our favorite bars, I knew I had to recreate it at home because spending $8 on a drink several times a week was not in the cards. The bar had used Jameson Irish whiskey. Since I was trying to use up as much of the alcohol that we have before moving again before moving again, I thought I’d pop the Rebel Yell open and give it ago. My verdict: SO freaking good.
So grab one shot of your favorite whiskey (like my cute cow shot glass?) and dump it into your glass with the juice of one lime and ice. All that’s left to do is fill the rest of you glass up with your favorite ginger beer – I used Barritt’s. I find ginger beer to have a much stronger ginger flavor and more carbonation than a ginger-flavored soda. If that doesn’t sound up your alley, then feel free to substitute ginger ale. Stir and voila! One Irish mule ready to be drunk.
1 shot of whiskey (I used Rebel Yell Ginger Whiskey; also love Jameson)
Juice of 1 lime
1 can of ginger beer (I used Barritt’s)
- Fill up a tall glass (or one of those fancy copper mugs) with ice.
- Pour one shot of whiskey into the glass. Squeeze both halves of the lime into the glass and toss the lime halves into the glass.
- Fill the rest of the glass with ginger beer.
- Pop a straw into your glass and stir. Enjoy!
If you’re not a fan of a potent ginger flavor and/or a lot of carbonation, I recommend substituting ginger ale. If you want to forgo a soda entirely, I recommend using lime flavored carbonated water.
What’s your drink of choice at the moment?
